Torrevieja

Nestled between the sea and two large saltwater lagoons, the town of Torrevieja is truly the City of Salt with its proud historic connection to the salt industry.

The lagoons of Las Salinas de Torrevieja and La Mata sit on the outskirts of the town, and provide not only salt but a striking natural habitat for a diverse range of wildlife - including the flocks of flamingos that make the lakes their home. Salt extracted from the lakes is shipped all over the world direct from Torrevieja’s shore.At the heart of the town is a buzzing waterfront with a long promenade that invites locals and tourists alike to stroll and enjoy the sea air. Numerous waterfront bars and restaurants line the seafront and the two marinas tempt visitors to sit a while and dream about life aboard the luxury yachts moored in Torrevieja.

Venture further into the streets of Torrevieja and you will find a myriad of small independent boutiques and more restaurants where you can sample the local cuisine or international gastronomy.

When you have had enough of eating and drinking, explore the rich cultural life of the town. Visit the Plaza de la Constitución with its neoclassical Church of the Immaculate Conception which dates back to 1880, enjoy music concerts – modern and classical – in the town’s theatre, auditorium or one of its outdoor music venues, visit the night market and buy crafts and souvenirs, or marvel as the town hosts colourful festivities and parades.

Orihuela Costa
