Easter in Torrevieja is a truly special time, where visitors and locals alike come together to experience Spain’s vibrant religious traditions.
Parades are held almost every day from Palm Sunday (April 13th) through to Easter Sunday, to mark this special time in the Christian calendar.
The main events include the mystical silent parade on the evening of Maunday Thursday (17th ), the solemn procession on Good Friday and, of course, the joyous moment of the resurrection on Easter Sunday (April 20th).
Silent processions
With the lights turned out and only candles lighting the way, the silent processions create a haunting, spiritual atmosphere.
The Maunday Thursday parade starts at 22.00 with the silent procession from the Templo Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción in Plaza de la Constitution. At 23.59 a second solemn procession starts in Plaza del Calvario. Before the procession starts Agrupación Coral Manuel Barberá will perform La Pasión de la Tía Tortas.
Good Friday
On Good Friday two more solemn processions take place at 12.00 starting from Plaza de Oriente and 19.00 from the Templo Ariprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción in Plaza de la Constitución.
Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday is a truly special day in Torrevieja with the celebration of the Ressurection. The day starts in somber mode with the solemn procession at 08.00 from Templo Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción in Plaza de la Constitution. A second procession takes a different route and when the two groups meet at the junction of calles Concepción and Fotógrafos Darblade the resurrection is celebrated. The image of the virgin is stripped of her mourning shawl and music fills the streets, petals rain down and bells ring as fireworks explode in the skies to celebrate the Ressurection of Christ.
